Epsom residents will vote on February 13 on whether to accept a
historic meeting house that will be demolished if it isn't
moved out of the path of a new Cumberland Farms by March 1. At a
deliberative session in January, a town-appointed building
committee reported a strong need for new town offices and offered
preliminary plans for a new facility that incorporates the landmark
structure. The special session was attended by more than twice the
number of people who have participated in recent town meetings,
according to Town Moderator Gary Matteson. The vote is subject to
conditions that appear to have been met-the Friends group has
raised funds to cover the cost of the move and has negotiated terms
with the owner and mover. The Epsom Meetinghouse is listed on the
Alliance's 2006 Seven to Save list.
