Get Ready to Bid for Preservation

May is Preservation Month and a great time to participate in the New Hampshire Preservation Alliance’s online auction. Auction proceeds will support our work with Seven to Save endangered properties and community gathering places as well as provide help for Main Streets and old farms and barns. It opens May 13 at 7 p.m. and closes on May 28.

This year’s auction features a great variety of quality experiences, goods and services that have been donated by generous businesses, individuals and organizations that care about the restoration and preservation of New Hampshire’s historic places.

Visit one-of-a-kind historic landmarks and receive behind the scenes tours of places such as Rudyard Kipling’s Naulakha (pictured above).

Those who need a quick getaway may bid on a hotel packages at the White Mountains’ Mountain View Grand or Thayer’s Inn in Littleton; or The Sailmaker’s House in Portsmouth.

Our behind-the-scenes tours offer memorable visits with friends or family; the options include Canterbury Shaker Village in Canterbury, NH, Castle in the Clouds in Moultonborough, NH and Rudyard Kipling's Naulakha in Dummerston, VT.

As summer approaches, participants can bid on opportunities to visit Fuller Gardens or Bedrock Gardens, experience the Swan Boats in the Boston Public Garden, take driving lessons from the Carriage Barn in Kensington, or a enjoy a week’s use of a bathhouse on the beach at North Hampton.

Involved in an old house project, or a community preservation initiative? Ann Henderson Design is offering a kitchen consultation and barn experts Ian Blackman and Richard Thompson are providing assessments for barn history and repair. Other services in the auction portfolio include a year’s subscription to New Hampshire’s on-line historic resource database EMMIT, preparation of a nomination to the N.H. Register of Historic Places and development of a grant application.

Treat yourself or someone you know to a unique handmade gift such as the Heritage Bracelet above.

Uniquely New Hampshire auction items for yourself or a gift include art and jewelry, books, brewery tastings, heritage organization memberships and local food products like artisan bread and chocolate.

For Preservation Month this year, plan to participate in the Preservation Alliance’s online auction and encourage your family and friends to show their support for the history and heritage of New Hampshire. The auction is generously sponsored by Vintage Kitchens (also an auction donor!).
